Sago Palm

The Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta) is a striking, easy-care cycad known for its lush, feather-like fronds and tropical appeal. Despite its name, the Sago Palm is not a true palm but an ancient cycad, making it incredibly hardy and resilient. This slow-growing plant typically reaches a height of 3 to 10 feet and can eventually spread 4 to 6 feet wide when mature. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, performing best when exposed to bright, indirect light. The Sago Palm requires well-draining soil and should be watered sparingly, as it is highly drought-tolerant once established. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so letting the soil dry between waterings is crucial.

Ideal for containers, landscapes, or indoor decoration, the Sago Palm is cold hardy down to about 15–20°F and is commonly used in subtropical and warm temperate regions. Its bold, symmetrical shape makes it a popular choice for creating dramatic focal points in gardens or entryways. However, it’s important to note that all parts of the Sago Palm are toxic to pets and humans if ingested, so care should be taken with its placement. With minimal pruning and care, this low-maintenance, drought-resistant plant can add years of beauty to your home or garden.
